Here's What I'm All About...

Hey friend - thanks for stopping by!

I'm Mark, a tour, portrait and street photographer. My work's been used by some of the world's biggest bands and actors from the world of tv and film. I've received recognition at the International Photography Awards, I've shot album covers and my work has been featured on television and in magazines. At the end of the day though, I'm just someone who loves photography and my goal is to share everything I've learned over the years with anyone who shares my passion for taking pictures.

My Story

As a kid my dream was to either be a radio presenter or a photographer. I was obsessed with music and photography, spending all my time playing records in my bedroom whilst being fixated by the pictures on the album covers or cd sleeves. 

My obsession led to a career in radio where I made my living as a presenter and music programmer. After winning awards for my achievements, my career was cut short due to cutbacks and networking in the industry. 

At the same as losing my career, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which saw me spend the best part of a year recovering in hospital and later at home. With no income, and plenty of time to think about what my future held, I made the decision to dedicate my time to pursuing my passion for photography. So I reached out to some bands I knew, asking if I could shoot them on tour. 

Three Irish lads called the Script invited me to shoot with them and I started to learn my trade. I noticed straight away that there was nowhere to go to ask for help when it came to concert photography and in general, there was a lot of gatekeeping and competition within the photography world which I found discouraging. 

Nonetheless, in time I was picking up work with other artists and some big brands and it seemed like everything was going to plan...and then Covid happened!

Overnight, I was back in the position of losing my job and having no income, relying on government handouts to survive. It was the lowest point in my life, I'd lost my radio career and now my photography career or so it seemed. It was at this point that I started planning the Perfect Picture Academy. I never wanted to be in this position again, where I could lose what I'd worked for, through no fault of my own, and I wanted to create a place of encouragement, support and learning. 

It's been my passion project for a number of years but in 2024 it's finally ready to share.

My Values

Life has taught me that we don't get a lot of time and we can lose everything in the blink of an eye. We all have one chance to do something positive with our lives and I believe photography allows us to do that. The pictures we take will live forever, being passed down and looked at long after we're gone. Photographs connect us to our past, they bring us comfort and joy, they help us understand who we are and they allow us to leave a legacy. A sign that we did something positive and productive with our time here. 

I believe that we're all meant to do something positive with our lives and I want to help you to create your own legacy by giving you the knowledge and confidence to take the best pictures of your life. 

I've created a SIMPLE system for taking breathtaking pictures consistently with the camera you already own and I want to show you how to do it. My system takes all of the guesswork out of taking amazing pictures and my goal is to help you take your photography skills to the next level without years of struggle.
